The Dark Krystal, get it? Because it's the picture I drew of Krystal, and it's dark, and it sounds like that old movie... Yeah...

So pun titles aside, I'm not much of a Starfox fan, and I usually hate characters designed by Rare, but somehow against all odds I do find certain aspects of Krystal appealing. That would be her blueness of course, my favorite color is blue. Yes, that's it and nothing more. I had to do a little more research for this than usual, having never played Starfox adventures, but when i saw the part where Fox is holding the staff and it has those magic blue flames, that seemed like a good idea to use.

Overall, I'm pretty happy with the coloring of this picture, it has a good feeling of light and going from blue to green as things get darker isn't something you see very often. I went a little overboard on making her hair smooth and shiny, but you live and learn. However, I'm not sure if I like her face. I tried to do something a little different, a little bit sharper than usual, and I'm not sure about the results. Also, the details on her shoulder plate things and her collar thing were a huge pain to color, they are definitely the sort of thing you see on a character that was originally designed for CG, same goes for her built-in color gradients which I sharpened up for simplicity's sake. There are some things that are just more trouble to do by hand then they are worth.

In closing, I'd just like to say I hope this meets the standards of the many Krystal fans out there, you people are a force to be reckoned with.

Thanks a lot! The more I go back and look at this though, the more I think I drew her too skinny. Would you say I'm crazy or maybe agree? Be honest. I've been looking over my older submissions lately and thinking about cleaning things up.

This is pretty cool... All the other drawings I saw of Krystal were you know......out there........~.~ I think she should have her own games. Not really a big fan of star fox.

Thanks for the input, both positive and negative. Her tail is indeed oversized, but for what it's worth, that was an intentional design choice. I like that big fluffy tail look and the person who wanted the set of images this Krystal pic was a part of specifically wanted them off-model.
